About Us
The Fraternal Order of Police is the World's largest organization of sworn law
enforcement officers with over 320,000 members. In New Jersey, the Fraternal
Order of Police represents over 20,000 law enforcement officers. No one knows
the difficulties and dangers that face law enforcement officers better than
another officer and no one knows law enforcement better than the FOP.
The
Sparta Township Police Department is comprised of 39 officers. The Police
Department is headed by the Chief of Police, Ernest Reigstad. There are 3
Lieutenants. Lt. Nafis is in command of the administration, Lt Schetting is in
command of the Patrol Division, and Lt. Rozek is in command of the Technology
and Communications division. Detective/ Sergeant John Schanstra is in command of
our Detective Bureau.
There is a Traffic Division led by Sgt. Neil Spidaletto. There are four Squads within the Police Department, each under the supervision of a Sergeant. There are 5 patrolman assigned to each Squad. Each
officer assigned to a Squad, works a 12-hour shift, rotating night and day tours
every two weeks.
The Detective Bureau has 3 detectives, 1 school
resource officers, and one D.A.R.E. officer under the supervision of the
Detective Sergeant. Detectives are responsible for follow-up investigations of
all crimes committed within the township. Detectives are also responsible for
working with employees from other departments for multi-jurisdictional
investigations.
Risk is an inherent part of police work and the Sparta
Lodge #26 is committed to protecting those who protect others. To create a
tradition of esprit de corps insuring fidelity to duty under all conditions, to
cultivate a spirit of fraternalism and mutual helpfulness among our members and
the people we serve, establishing the confidence of the public in the services
dedicated to the protection of life and property and insuring fraternalism
within our membership is our goal.
Our mission is to further promote the
interests of our organization and our members to the community. We strive to
make a difference by educating the public and expanding our reach. By improving
members' individual skills, we believe we improve law enforcement as a whole,
which promotes public confidence.

911 Memorial
We will never forget all the people who died on September 11, 2001. Nor will we ever forget all those who are giving the ultimate sacrifice everyday for the freedoms we have here in America.
