On January 25, 2007 Police Officer Daniel Elig graduated from the Cape May County Police Academy. The Sparta Lodge #26 would like to congratulate him on his first step of his police career. We also are welcoming him to our Fraternal Order of Police Lodge. P.O. D. Elig spent six months away from his family to attend this academy. On behalf of the Sparta Lodge # 26 GREAT JOB! and GOOD LUCK in your years as a police officer with Sparta Township.

Big Bowl MVP - Phil Brown!

21-21 (OT)

In a encore performance, the Brown brother’s, hard(Lou Brown) vs. soft(Phil Brown), returned for the 2007 Pig-Bowl.  Even though the blue team was three players shy of the yellow teams superior numbers, Soft-Brown humbled Hard-Brown and the yellow team with his MVP performance.

The blue team, down 14-0 at the half, the soft QB connected with Mo-Tyme on a few key receptions to give their team a chance.  An opportunity that blue seized upon with Soft-Brown's 20 yard run and 5 yard dive toward the pylons.  Terrence would have made the tackle but he was buckled over in laughter at the sight of Phil running.

Schomp’s 20 yard scamper into the end zone (6'6, 250 running full-speed is a scary sight) in over-time sealed the tie and a great game was had by all!

We also want to thank all the families who donated all the toys, cloths, and jackets for the needy. Sparta Police along with the FOP are in the process of starting a Pantry at Police Headquarters. When an officer responds to a call in town and the family has no food or the children have no toys, we will supply the family with what they need. Families in need will also be encouraged to come to Police Headquarters to request help. We look foward to Pig Bowl 2008 and hope we could double the donations we recieved this year. Happy New Year to all!

Fraternal Order of Police - Fitness Center:

During the planning phase of the new police station, the Chief set aside a portion of a storage room for physical fitness training. The Chief understood the need for physical fitness in law enforcement and recognizes the rigors and time constraints associated with shift work. To that end, he set aside the space and charged the officers with providing the equipment. Over a three and a half year period, the Sparta F.O.P. received contributions from a few residents’ home gyms and held three successful comedy night fundraisers to purchase the remaining equipment.

We Thank You!!!
